Love of Dole Whip

The infamous “Dole Whip” treat has been a staple in the Disney Parks for a while. There is often contention among Disney fans whether the treat is better than the “Mickey Bar,” but that’s a story for another day. Currently, there are two locations at Walt Disney World that you can buy a Dole Whip: Aloha Isle in Adventureland at the Magic Kingdom, and Pineapple Lanai at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. At Disneyland, you can find a Dole Whip at The Tiki Bar in Adventureland. Sure, they are other locations that exist outside of the Disney theme parks that serve a version of it, but there is NOTHING like experiencing a true Dole Whip while strolling through Main Street.

What Is Dole Whip Exactly?

So what IS a Dole Whip? Well, the “Dole” name comes from the company that produces it, Dole Foods. The actual treat is a pineapple-flavored soft serve dessert that comes in a cone or cup. You can also get it as a float with pineapple juice at the bottom of the cup. Other iterations have been developed more recently, like multiple flavors and some with alcohol, but the original Dole Whip remains the most popular.

The Dole Whip was born out of the partnership with Dole Foods and Disneyland. Starting in 1976, Dole Foods began sponsoring The Enchanted Tiki Room, and served only pineapple juice. The company spread to other Disney Parks, and by 1984, the very first Dole Whip was served in the Magic Kingdom (Disneyland followed close behind in 1986). Since then, the demand for this tasty treat has grown tremendously. On Instagram, it has become commonplace to see thousands of pictures posted per day of people showing their love of the dessert. And for those that can’t make it to the Disney parks to experience it firsthand, searching “dole whip” on YouTube will produce many videos on how to make the treat at home.
