Podcasts are truly one of the greatest innovations in how we can consume information. There is no end to the topics that you can find great podcasts on, be it sports, self help, politics, business and of course Disney. Which is probably why it’s no shock that you are reading this right now, you want to know what are the best Disney podcasts that are worth your time. Given there is no shortage of general Disney podcasts or Disney World podcasts out there, it can be hard to know which ones provide lively discussions on the latest happenings in the parks, great trip planning advice and of course the latest news and rumors surrounding Disney Parks.
For those that perhaps don’t listen to Disney World podcasts or podcasts in general much (or at all) it’s really a habit that is quite rewarding and fun. Podcasts are great because you can listen to them at your leisure, so whether you are cleaning, stuck in traffic, working out or just winding down for the night, listening to a podcast on a topic you enjoy is fun and informative. If you of course love Disney the good news is we have been listening to many of the best Disney World podcasts for years (so much so that we started our own but more on that later) and we are here to recommend some of the best Disney World podcasts you should be listening to.
What We Look For
Before I get into my recommendations for the top Disney podcasts, first I want to go over what it is I and most Disney fans look for in a Disney related podcast..
It’s probably important that first we discuss one of the main elements you should look for in a great Disney podcast. For me, first and foremost the people on the podcast need to have a love and passion for Disney. This may sound obvious but you would be surprised at the amount of Disney related podcasts out there that seem to either lost their love or passion for Disney or they just don’t look at Disney with the same reverence as most of us Disney fans do. It’s important to note that this doesn’t mean that the podcast needs to be a “fanboy” and never say a negative thing about Disney but that they are coming from a place of love and passion for the topic.
This one probably goes without saying but any Disney podcast worth it’s salt is going to have solid information. I, like many others, enjoy hearing the latest news, rumors, discussions and debates about polarizing Disney topics, such as Fastpass+, favorite rides, attractions, restaurants and more. A podcast that stays on top of the latest happenings in the parks is also a good indication that the hosts have a passion for Disney as staying on top of all the news and rumors is truly a labor of love that can almost be a fulltime job (especially lately).
This is a simple equation, Disney is fun so of course I want my Disney podcast to be fun! This one may shock you but so many Disney related podcasts I’ve listened to just seem like they aren’t having fun. No matter the topic of a podcast, I assume the people on the podcast should be excited when talking about the subject matter related to the podcast, same goes for Disney related podcasts.
Trip Planning Tips
While the latest news and rumors surrounding Disney are always fun, I find the thing that is the most beneficial for the most part are Disney trip planning tips. Things that you would have perhaps never thought of before that can help make your next trip that much better and enjoyable. This typically means the hosts of the podcast are frequent Disney World guests so they are able to share many of the tips and tricks they have learned from going often.
Our Top 4 Disney Podcasts
Below you will find our top 4 picks for the best Disney World podcasts in 2017.
As you might have guessed by the name of this podcast, this is our very own podcast. Now we aren’t trying to say we are the top podcast out there today as you’ll see with some other shows in this article that there are some excellent podcasts on the topic of Disney. We just feel we’ve got a pretty good show and invite you to take a listen and let us know what you think.
The show is hosted by myself (Jamie) and my husband Jared. We post 2 episodes each week on Mondays and Thursdays. The Monday shows are a grab bag of topics that can range from best/worst lists, travel tips, resort reviews, restaurant reviews, listener questions, and much more. The Thursday show is our news and rumors show where we discuss the latest news and rumors that week concerning Disney and Disney World.
We started the podcast because, simply put, we love Disney! When we aren’t planning our next trip (which is pretty much always), we are talking about, reading about, watching videos, and listening to things related to Disney. We also currently go to Disney World 2-3 times per year so we have lots of tips when it comes to travel, the resorts, and in the parks that we love to share. That’s a long way of saying we eat and breathe this stuff so we decided to put out our own podcast for other Disney lovers out there.
We like to keep things loose and fun, but also provide great information, tips and more for all our listeners. We would love for you to check it out, subscribe and leave us a review on iTunes (or whatever platform you listen on). We love getting feedback from listeners and answering any questions you may have as well. Also right now if you join the Capture The Magic Podcast Newsletter you can be entered to win a free t-shirt as we are giving away a free t-shirt (or multiple shirts) each month from our store collection. To enter to win just head here and follow the directions in the email we send to you.
This roundtable discussion podcast covers all things about Disney World. Since they have been recording 10 years running, their experience in the parks is very deep and I really enjoy listening to their conversations. The company that produces the podcast, The Dis, has been a staple in the Disney World online community for 20 years, and their online reach is immersive. They also produce Dis Unplugged: Universal Edition, Dis Pop, and Dreams Unlimited Travel. Their main news show is recorded live and on video that you can watch on their website and YouTube. The Dis website is quite extensive as well and very informative.
Having mentioned all of that, the original podcast is still the best. There is a common core of people that have been with the show since it started in 2007, and it’s nice to listen to their opinions and how their feelings have evolved over the years. The true force of the show is the host Pete Werner, who loves Disney but isn’t afraid to voice his pleasure and displeasure on certain topics.
If you have ever visited the WDW Prep School website, then you may be familiar with this podcast. Every episode is hosted by Shannon Albert, who runs the website that the podcast accompanies. The episode topics vary every week, but include mostly Disney vacation planning tips and first-time trip reports. She does get to travel to Disney World frequently and always records a daily trip report for the podcast.
On a personal observation, her voice is quite pleasant to listen to. Not that it puts the listener to sleep, but it’s very soothing to me. And she’s very interested in helping her customers and subscribers to the website and podcast with planning their vacations to Disney World, so you can hear the enthusiasm in her voice about that. The show has been around for only 3 years, but I just find what she talks about very interesting. My favorite tips she gives are those that involve the best places to stand, sit, or be during special events like dessert parties, fireworks, and shows.
I haven’t been listening to this podcast as long as some of the others, but I really like it! Out of all of the best Disney podcasts out there, this one seems to deliver the most direct information. The show is hosted by Len Testa, who is a co-writer for the “Unofficial Guide” travel books (hence the name of the podcast) and runs TouringPlans.com. He is almost always joined by Jim Hill, who I would refer to as Mr. Disney Insider. I’m not sure exactly how he gets all of his information, but he seems to know some connected people that work at Disney and he knows A LOT about what Disney is doing before anyone else does. He is also a writer and Disney historian and that knowledge lends a great deal to the podcasts.
They are both busy so they only do about 2-3 shows per month, but typically those shows are packed full of information, and you can tell that both Jim and Len love discussing the latest happenings in the Disney parks.
Wrapping It Up
We encourage you to check out all the podcasts we mentioned as they each have a unique take on Disney, especially if you are as big a fan of Disney as we are and plan on traveling to Disney World in the future.
